Sarrat and Batac are home to Ilocos Norte's rich history. It is in these two towns of the province where we can find the Sta.Monica Church (Sarrat) and the Marcos Museum (and more in Batac). Aside from finding the Sinking Bell Tower, part of our 1st day itinerary is to go to these places.

For poorpackers like us, going to these places is such a feat (just kidding!). But seriously, going to these places with just a map (and budgeted money) wasn't easy. Here's how we did it:
1. From the city proper, we hired a trike to take us to Sarrat
We approached one driver and asked if he could take us to Sarrat. He said "yes" but when we asked him how much would it cost, we are blown away for its price (
P100!). To shake away our disbelief, we headed further and asked other drivers. And yes, the first trike driver isn't trying to scam us. Fare going to Sarrat is really P100/PER TRICYCLE. But then, because we are on a budget, we asked more drivers and tried to haggle. We were lucky to find one who's willing to take us to Sarrat for P70. However, we decided to go to McDonalds first for our take-away lunch and surprise, surprise, we could no longer find him
(naisip niya siguro that our offer is too low). hehe
We found another one who can take us there for P75 though we ended up paying him P80 (
ang layo kaya!).
Fare: P100/tricycle

2. Because we're planning to visit Batac right after that, we ride a tricycle in Sarrat and told the driver to drop us off to the jeepneys' terminal for Batac.
Fare: P100/tricycle (we tried our bargaining skill again so we had it for P80)

hindi halatang pagod na :p |

oftentimes, it's the journey that matters most |
3. Back in the city, we ride a jeepney going to Batac (trikes can't take you there; it's too far)
Fare: P25
 |
We arrived in Batac at around 5 pm so the museum is already closed :( |
I love your photos, gaganda! And you really have to take photos inside the trike huh, souvenir of the very high fare?...hehe!

Hi Ed! Oo, sobrang liit nga ng tricycles nila. 'yung kasama nga naming lalake, sumakit ata ang paa tapos my other friend and I have to take turns in sitting that tiny seat beside the driver. Pero I guess, that's part of making that trip memorable :)
