Together with my travel buddy Grace, we went to Outland Adventure Camp, just a few minutes cab-ride from downtown area, across the Gap Farm. The camp used to be popular with their ropes course, a favorite team-building venue for corporate people. However, just a few years ago, they introduced The Xcelerator, one of the longest zips in Asia.
We were able to reach the first jump off point by riding the camp's vehicle. I could have appreciated it more if it requires trekking since that was the one I'm expecting. One of the staff explained that they're having problems with the trail so they better drop us off themselves.
I would be lying if I tell you that I didn't get nervous because I did. Looking at the distance from the jump-off to the end-point makes me want to just give up the whole idea. However, if I back out, I may not be able to face my fear.
I was having quite a hard time in positioning myself. When you're not that 'fit', you find it challenging to carry your weight in this position ;p
While in the midst of the zipline, I was having a really tough time in holding my feet together so there were a few attempts of changing my position from inverted to sitting. It's actually quite an awkward position but I survived it without having vomited or something.
The second zip is a few minutes trek from the 1st one. I did love it especially having read this little reminder while on our way to the jump-off point.
Here's what you should remember when trying the zipline:
- Wear comfortable clothes and that includes tight-fitting shoes.
- Relax.
- Try to remember a few good points from the staff.
- Enjoy the speedy ride. Remember, life's an adventure!
Outland Adventure Camp is located in Diversion Road, Ma-a, Davao City.
