Baguio: More Than Just PH's Summer Capital

Pine trees, cold weather, postcard-worthy scenarios - these definitely brings up Baguio City. However, more than just its conducive-for-layering temperature, the City of Pines has other things to offer.

1. Cheap Food Finds
The good thing about being on a budget is that it allows you (err, more on pushing you) to be resourceful. Before heading to the strawberry farm at La Trinidad, Benguet, we have decided to satisfy first our rumbling stomachs. Because we are on a budget, we skip the restaurants and went carenderia-hopping near Burnham Park.

Coming from a place where a decent viand can be bought at P15, we were surprised with the food prices: a simple pork dish for P75 and rice for P15. That simple meal is too much for our allotted budget so while our other friend stayed on that carenderia, Grace and I headed to Burnham Park in search for the cheapest lunch. Opo, ganyan po kami kakuripot ;)

Lunch for P20 here!
We went back to this humble stall where we bought our yummy strawberry shake the day before and satisfied ourselves with our less-than-P30 lunch. I got a huge serving of pancit for P10 and 3 pieces of spring rolls for P10. Yup! I got a satisfying lunch for P20. If you're ready to haggle, search, and show your biggest smile, you can find cheap but decent meals in this city.

2. Culture and History Lessons
More than my gastronomic cravings, Baguio has also satisfied my curiosity with the culture and history of our people. Camp John Hay, The Mansion, Tam-awan Village and even the Mines View Park can provide anyone with a glimpse of the culture and history of our ancestors and land. I realized just now that it would be superbly good experience if we could have had met, talked, and lived with the real natives of the city.

I want to meet a real native of Baguio!
3. A Great Place to Workout
I'm not kidding. The city for me is one of the best places to burn those calories and shed those extra pounds (just forget #1). The slopes, the high altitude, and the city's breathtaking view are enough motivators to keep you moving.

Will you not be enticed to walk around in this kind of place?
Have you been to Baguio?
How's your experience?
